Some seaons shine... with or without me.
by HockeyChic 02.28.2012
I admit it... between being a full-time employee and a full time at (count it!) TWO different undergrad schools, I'm limited with how much hockey I get aside from pathetic updates on my phone.
This season has been - for the most part - great. Our record is impressive, we're making a lot of trades, our team is winning even when you wonder how (with some lackluster games). But, I'm sorry to everyone for not updating much... nor will I be the remainder of the season. Maybe I'll have some down time over spring break? (Doubtful.)
Who do you pull for when you don't like anyone?
by HockeyChic 05.27.2011
Tonight the one team left that I was pulling for, the Tampa Bay Lightening, were put out in a game 7 effort by the Boston Bruins. So now I have a conundrum: I don't pull for Eastern Conference Teams but I don't want to pull for the team that put MY team out of contention. So... what's a girl to do? I want to say I don't really care who wins but...

Nashville Battles to Stay in the Playoffs
by HockeyChic 05.08.2011
There's nothing scarier to a die-hard fan than thinking your "Win or Go Home" night is an away game. There's some special sort of fear that strikes at the heart of a fan, especially when your team has gone further than they ever have in their history. I wasn't ready for the away game on 05.07.11, a game in 'enemy territory', to be my final game of the season. I wasn't ready to go for a long summer without my team, my sport, and potentially seeing a lot of my friends as often. One thing had been my mantra from the beginning of the playoffs and my Twitter account was on fire with the #iBelieve in my #Preds hashtags.
The Playoff Run... in the bag?
by HockeyChic 04.03.2011
Throughout this season, we've had ups and downs. Winning streaks that elated our spirits, losing streaks and injury rosters that questioned our fan-hood. But in the end, there is one thing I can always say about the die-hard fans of SMashville and the endurance of the team: We Perservere.
I write this now, as we sit pretty in the #6 spot in the playoff run (with a strong chance at moving up!) and wonder openly if this is our year. Is this the year that the Predators finally see some well-earned respect as a team? Is this the year that Nashville loses the stigma of an 'off market' team?
Maybe.
This year has been better than many in my past 9 years of attending games. I've met a lot of new people, made a lot of new friends, and watched new players sparkle when 'old' players were out. I watched one of my favorites battle his inner demons and one of my least favorites step up and play his role as intended. Perhaps one of the best things I've seen, however, is Pekka Rinne coming into his own and proving to the rest of the world that he embodies amazing talent and skill. Peks has become, to most citizens of Smashville, Superman. Not to put undue pressure on him, but it is on the shoulders of that Superman that we will ride into the playoffs.
It is with my new mantra that I look forward to our last 3 games and to our upcoming playoff run. I will not settle for a first-round only playoff season this year... and I don't think my team will, either.
The smallest amount of faith is greater than the largest amount of doubt. #iBelieve #Preds
With that said, I want to send a great shout-out to some of my new friends that I hope to keep beyond the borders of hockey: Mark, Travis, Bryan, Jas, Jen, Ben... and the list goes on. You all know who you are, and I wanted to say "Thank You" for helping this season be one that is truly remarkable for me.

The 2010-2011 season has started and it's shaping up to be an exciting season. Follow me through quick and dirty game recaps for your two Southern teams (the Nashville Predators and the Atlanta Thrashers) and occasional bits from around the NHL... Now on Rock105 midweek during Billy & Boner's Morning show!
Hockey isn't like football, it's not a wussy (and TOTALLY fan-UNfriendly) limit of 1-game-a-week. Take the time. Go see a game. Television doesn't do it justice. If you're not sure about the rules or why things are what they are, call the station and let them know; we'll see if we can't get some basics available for you!
Twitter me, baby; you know you want to...

Vancouver's Rypien vs. Fan
10.22.2010
Wow. Rypien fights a fan. The NHL handed down a 6-game suspension (not to mention the monetary impact) today. As a fan of the sport, I agree that a player should have enough control by this point to not take aggression out on the fans. On the flip side, as a fan who has heard some of the profanity and insults hurled towards the players... well, fans, we have a responsibility to be mature and treat the players (and, as much as I hate to say it, the officials) with the same respect their officiating bodies mandate they must have for us. Time to grow up, people. If you can't take the heat, keep your trap shut.

Late 2010
Not only do I want you to support our local teams, I want you to support our community! Here's where I'm going to be and maybe you can help? Catch me on Wednesday mornings on Chattanooga's Rock105 for the Southern Hockey Recap!
December: Busy month - and BAD month. We had some family tragedy (pet died AND my car was backed into) and missed a few games. I hate missing games. Zero holiday shopping done (update: as of 12.20.2010 that tid-bit is still true). There were some highlights tho... Preds are playing better... got to see my "fave" score.
November: There's only FOUR home Predators games in November. That SUCKS. This month I get naked for hockey. Yup. You read that right. Rock105 will be putting up a dedicated "HockeyChic" page wheein I'll be equipped with stick, gloves, and skates (or variations thereof). Dying to see that? Call the boys between 5-10 a.m. (Eastern) @ 423.642.0105 & let them hear!
October: Throughout the Halloween season Billy & Boner will be hanging at the Sir Gooney's halloween festivities. Make sure you stop by and see the guys! Don't forget that I'll be at the Predators home games, in my usual spot!
.September: Hockey starts late in the month - join me in Nashville for pre-season hockey!
August: I'm taking some time to chill and go on vacation. Miss ya, mean it!
July: This month we're going to have photo shoots for Quinn Productions for a benefit calendar supporting Children's Miracle Network. Keep your eyes here (not literally!) for updates on when the calendar will be out, where you can get your hands on it, and when I might be around to sign it! THIS WAS CANCELLED POST-SHOOT DUE TO UNAVOIDABLE CONFLICTS.
